Andrés Mejía Rojas

Colombian cellist Andrés Mejía Rojas is recognized for his commitment to artistic excellence and the social impact of music. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis on Cello from EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia, and a Master of Music in Music Education from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where he received the Excellent in Teaching Award 2024. He is currently part of the leadership team at the Boston Music Project and a global member of the 2025–2026 MBA in Arts Innovation cohort at the Global Leaders Institute.

Andrés began his musical studies at the age of ten at the Villa Hermosa Music School, part of Medellín’s Network of Music Schools, under the guidance of Edwin Machado Rivera and Jimmy Arcos Mora. Within the network, he was a member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra and Youth Symphonic Band, performing under renowned conductors such as Scott Yoo, Arturo Márquez, Luis Serrano Alarcón, and Oscar Navarro.

He has collaborated with ensembles including the IBERACADEMY Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellín, the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra, and the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Colombia, with which he toured across the Americas and Europe under the baton of Andrés Orozco- Estrada, Rafael Payare, and Paolo Bortolameolli.

Through his work with Iberacademy, Andrés has collaborated with leading conductors and solist such as Alejandro Posada, Roberto González-Monjas, Sarah Willis, Rolando Villazón, Emily Pogorelc and Michael Tilson Thomas, and has led artistic and educational projects in partnership with institutions such as the Mozarteum Foundation (Salzburg), Hilti Foundation, Gustavo Dudamel Foundation, Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, among others.
